Who's Your One Disciple?
Part 1 of the “One More Disciple” Blog Series
By Josh Smith
Our mission at Soteria Church is unmistakable: to make more and better disciples. It’s not just an expression—it’s the Great Commission Christ gave us and empowered by His Spirit. But there’s a problem: many of us don’t know where to start. Evangelism can feel scary, forced, or overwhelming.
That’s why we created One More Disciple—a simple, relational approach to evangelism that anyone can do. The goal isn’t to turn you into a street preacher or a theological expert. It’s to help you take one step of faith toward someone in your life who doesn’t yet know Jesus.
What if each person in your Growth Group identified just one person to love, pray for, and pursue with gospel intentionality? What if your group didn’t just meet—but lived on mission together?
This four-part blog series will walk you through the rhythms of One More Disciple and show you how to live it out personally and together. Because making more and better disciples starts with just one.
The Truth About Evangelism
Evangelism can feel intimidating. It conjures images of knocking on random doors or starting an awkward conversation at work. We hesitate. We overthink. We stall out.
Most of us feel underprepared, underqualified, or just incapable.
But here’s the truth: evangelism isn’t just for the bold or the gifted. It’s for every believer.
Jesus didn’t say, “Go and make disciples—unless you’re shy.” The Great Commission wasn’t handed to experts. It was given to disciples. Ordinary followers of Jesus are called to help others follow him. That includes you. And it includes me.
The good news? It doesn’t start with a program. It starts with a person.
You Don’t Need a New Life. Just New Eyes.
Most of us don’t need to dramatically change our lives to participate in evangelism. We just need to see with fresh eyes.
That leads me to the R-Circles—a simple framework to help you notice the people God has already placed in your life.
There are three main circles:
- Roof: Who lives near you? Think roommates, family, or neighbors.
- Relationships: Who are your friends, coworkers, teammates, or extended family?
- Routines: Who do you regularly see at the gym, daycare pickup, coffee shop, or grocery store?

These aren’t accidental connections. They’re providential placements.
God has put you in specific places with specific people—for a specific purpose.
What if the people you already know are the mission field you’ve been praying for?
One Name. One Focus. One Step of Faith.
This week, each Growth Group member is encouraged to identify just one person from their R-Circles who doesn’t yet know Jesus. This is your One Disciple—someone you’ll love, pray for, and pursue with gospel intentionality.
You don’t need a polished presentation or a complicated plan.
Just one name. One step.
Here’s why that focus matters:
- It makes the mission personal.
- It sharpens your prayers.
- It fuels real action.
When each person chooses one, the collective impact is powerful. Imagine hundreds of people committed to reaching one more disciple—together.
What This Looks Like in Your Growth Group
Evangelism becomes more real, more sustainable, and more joyful when it happens in community. Here’s how your group can engage this week:
1. Reflect Together
Take a few minutes in your group to consider your R-Circles. Where has God placed you? Who doesn’t know Jesus? You don’t have to share out loud—but do listen to the Spirit’s prompting.
2. Write It Down
Once someone comes to mind, write their name somewhere visible—in your Bible, journal, or phone. Let it serve as a daily prayer prompt.
3. Pray with Focus
Pray for your One Disciple every day. As a group, start lifting up each other’s people throughout the week. You might even assign names to different days. Consistent prayer transforms evangelism from a task into a rhythm.
You don’t need to reach everyone. Just one.
Lifestyle Evangelism
One More Disciple isn’t a new program, catchy phrase, or a seasonal push. It’s a mindset—a practical way to live out the Great Commission in your everyday life.
You don’t have to be perfect. You just need to be present.
And you don’t have to do it alone. You have your Growth Group beside you.
So let’s begin.
Action Step for This Week:
Choose your One Disciple. Write their name down. Bring it to your Growth Group. Start praying. You may not know what’s next—but God does.
