The I-4 Lifestyle: Evangelism in Rhythm

Part 2 of the “One More Disciple” Blog Series
By Josh Smith

Last week, we asked: Who’s your One Disciple? You were encouraged to identify someone in your R-Circles who doesn’t yet know Jesus—your One Disciple. You might be praying for them; you might still be asking God to show you who that person is.

Either way, here’s your next step: make evangelism a rhythm in your life.

Evangelism isn’t more than a message—it’s about being there. Evangelism is not pressured or frantic, but faithful and Spirit-led. That’s the I-4 Lifestyle: a simple rhythm to help you pursue your One Disciple with consistency and grace.

The I-4 Rhythms

These rhythms are called “I-4” because each one starts with the letter “I.” They are:

  • Intercede Daily
  • Invest Weekly
  • Invite Monthly
  • Introduce Naturally

Let’s explore what each one looks like in everyday life.

Intercede Daily

If we believe God is the one who saves—not us—then prayer is essential. To “intercede” is to pray on someone else’s behalf. You already do it when you pray for a friend’s health, a child’s growth, or a loved one’s struggle.

“Intercede Daily” means you set aside time each day to pray specifically for your One Disciple. Ask God to soften their heart, open their eyes, and create opportunities for a relationship. Pray for boldness and compassion in your own heart, too.

You could tape their name to your bathroom mirror or set a daily reminder on your phone—“Hey, Siri.” Small practices help build spiritual habits.

In your Growth Group, take time each week to pray for each other’s One Disciples. You might even create a prayer calendar—assigning different names to different days. Praying together bolsters your shared mission.

Invest Weekly

Evangelism flows through relationships. And relationships grow through presence, care, and consistency.

Each week, do something intentional to connect with your One Disciple. Send a message. Grab lunch. Lend a hand. Share a hobby. Show up.

You don’t have to force a spiritual conversation every time. Just love well and build trust.

Ask yourself: What am I already doing this week that I could invite them into?

During group time, celebrate every step—even the small ones. “How did you invest in your One Disciple this week?” God often uses the ordinary to open extraordinary doors.

Invite Monthly

Once a month, create space to invite your One Disciple into a meaningful Christian environment. There are three areas to think about:

  • Invite them into your life. Coffee. Dinner. A house project. Hospitality opens hearts.
  • Invite them into your Growth Group. Our groups “party monthly.” Use that rhythm to introduce people to Christian community—game nights, bonfires, barbecues.
  • Invite them to church. Holidays like Christmas or Easter, baptisms, or new sermon series are great opportunities. If a Sunday service feels like too much, start smaller—Trunk or Treat and Easter Extravaganza are first for our community.

In your growth group, plan your next monthly party with outreach in mind. Keep it low-pressure and fun. Then pray that God uses it to stir spiritual curiosity.

Introduce Naturally

As you intercede, invest, and invite, gospel opportunities will naturally emerge. Sometimes slowly. Sometimes suddenly. Either way, be ready.

You’re not closing a deal—you’re making an introduction.

Share your story. Ask thoughtful questions. Talk about Jesus the way you’d talk about someone you love. Trust the Spirit to work.

It helps to review the gospel outline or the Romans Road (more on that next week), and to practice sharing your testimony in 2–3 minutes. You don’t need to sound awesome—just authentic.

You could even go through The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus as a group and invite your One Disciples to join. It’s a great way to explore the gospel together.

Evangelism Isn’t a Sprint. It’s a Walk.

The I-4 Rhythms aren’t about checking boxes. They’re about showing up. Loving well. Being faithful. They’re following Christ in every area of your life.

When a Growth Group commits to these rhythms, your weekly meeting becomes more than a Bible study. It becomes a missional debriefing—praying, encouraging, and celebrating what God is doing.

You may not see fruit immediately. But God honors faithfulness. And He’s already at work in the lives of those you’re reaching.

Action Step:
As a group, plan your next Monthly Party. Make it low-pressure and fun. Then pray for gospel conversations before, during, and after.
